Chomsky is right that America is not a democracy. He is wrong to imply that America has ever claimed to be a democracy. America is and has always been a Republic. Heck, the War of Independence was fought purely to protect the interests of Big Money capitalists from the reach of the government (the British government, in this case). And, yeah, he is naive and romantic about Communists.

Try psychotic. Concentrations of power are found in fascistic or totalitarian states among privileged elites. In the U.S., people from the humblest of backgrounds have been elected leaders.
