From CBS Marketwatch: <<Compaq Computer (CPQ: news, chart, profile) rallied more than 7 percent in midday action. Analyst Andrew Neff at Bear Stearns said Michael Capellas, the PC maker's chief executive, was upbeat about the company's outlook at the Comdex technology expo in Las Vegas. Neff also noted that Capellas is expecting a modest seasonal upturn for the rest of the year, and more notably, for the first quarter of 2002, as pent up demand should lead to a sharper-than-anticipated recovery. Capellas added that the adoption rate for Intel's (INTC: news, chart, profile) Pentium 4 chip was "much higher" than expected, Neff said in a note to clients.>>

CPQ is a buy at these levels, merger or no...

I agree. IBM is a much better fit and makes the combined company far more powerful than an HWP/CPQ.
