Hi Jorj, Jet engines are designed for a few bird intakes; certainly not a flock of birds, and especially, if one of the engines had served many flight hours already. It would also be political suicide for the Bush Administration, the FBI, and the NTSB to deliberately lie to the American public. Doing so would undermine the trust of the American public and make the war on terrorism problematic. If the Bush Administration should learn one lesson from the Vietnam war, it's this: lying to the American public serves no end.
