maybe I am not being objective at this point, but if they float the story that the birds caused the disintegration of the airplane, I consider that a much more disturbing cause than catastrophic mechanical failure or a terrorist act. If I let myself believe that it was caused by bird ingestion, I will never have another anxiety free flight. And considering that I fly every week, that isn't really a good thing. Again, I am not talking about engine failure. I know that can happen and I expect the pilots to deal with that since the plane can still have aerodynamic qualities. Not much a pilot can do with airborne rubble though. My sense of logic says that the sheer-pins that hold the engines to the wing structure would break before the tail would fall off from the vibrations.
