<<Mac Office X users would be surprised to learn that!>>

my apologies to all the mac users that use office for mac. i do not know how much that contributes to msft's profits.

when i purchased my last pc i was thinking about purchasing a imac but ms office for the imac cost about $500 at the time. this was about 1/2 of what the entire imac cost. also, the only reason i bought a pc (i.e. gateway) was because i needed my word and excel files to be compatible with the companies i do business with. this is what a monopoly does, it restricts choice and i was basically forced to purchase a pc with ms windows and office.

obviously, the doj does not care much about consumer choice in this antitrust case. i can only hope that open standards becomes prevelant in the future so i can purchase a internet device based on the benefits it provides me and not the features which are forced upon me.

rocky.

"Of course, if MS Office were a separate company, there would probably also be Java and Linux and Palm versions of Office available for purchase."

That's looney.
What is the market share of Java, Linux and Palm as a consumer OS?

At this time I don't think any significant revenue could be derived from offering Office on those platforms. Certainly not enough to offset the cost of providing Office and support for those platforms.
