by Peter Cohen, pcohen@maccentral.com

Celestix Networks Inc. has announced the Taurus Server Appliance. It's a network server appliance designed to support small to midsized businesses and up to 250 users at a time. The system incorporates e-mail, scheduled back-up, VPN and secure firewall, and an anti-virus engine with up to 40GB of internal storage.

Like other network attached storage (NAS) appliances, the Taurus Server Appliance can be up and running in just a few minutes. The system incorporates an LCD display that offers up a user-accessible menu system, and configuration can also happen remotely through a Web browser.

The Taurus Server Appliance can also be configured with a PCMCIA-based 802.11b networking card, making the unit compatible with the same standard employed by Apple's own AirPort wireless networking cards. And although the Taurus itself is built on Intel-compatible underpinnings, it is Mac OS compatible. It supports various flavo! rs of Windows, Linux (news - web sites) and UNIX networking standards too.

The system incorporates a customized Linux-based operating system and can be equipped with either Intel Celeron 800MHz or 1.2GHz CPUs, up to 512MB RAM; 2 x 100baseT ports, and up to 40GB of internal storage.

The Taurus Server Appliance carries a list price of US$1,499. The Taurus is expected to begin shipping in January.

Jim:

re: Like Fowler said, it's not the content but the delivery.

I think I said "style" v. delivery. So you prefer style to content? Figures you would vote to ban Paul. Forget the facts, let's go with the writing style.

Another hypocrite.
