I hear that by the time Paris was liberated in WW2, all it's citizens were members of the French resistance.

Just it wasn't apparent beforehand.

Actually, Noam Chomsky would be more concerned with how local linguisics might change as a result of the possibility that homogenenization of culture and government could follow military action in the region. If properly executed there will be pockets of pidgin followed by creolization...by which time the current political and religious motivating factors will have faded.
If improperly executed, internal fractionalization will increase and cross-border conflict will escalate.

Chomsky would say the CIA laced some hershey bars with a new "long live America" hypnosis agent and gave it to all of those children.

The really sad thing is some twisted individuals (more than a few on SI in fact) would consider that indisputable if it came from Chomsky.
