the advancements in laser eye surgery are unbelievable. If you have a good surgeon you should be fine. (I had relatively minor eye surgery last year and my eyes are great now.) Make sure you follow all the post-op directions. Infection is the most common cause of post surgery complications. Doctors can do so much more nowadays. People who used to have no hope of seeing again can be completely cured now in a lot of cases. Good luck!
