In a PM conversation with someone, I was suggesting small strategically placed explosive charges. Like at a sheer-pin or two on the engines and somewhere in the tail section.

blow the tail first since it makes the aircraft uncontrollable and then blow the engines at the same time to make sure.

But, I am just trying to come up with scenarios that fit what we do know (tail detaching first, then both engines, two audible rattles on the CVR). Pure speculation on my part, I don't know if it is even possible to get to those places easily.

The timing suggests to me that it wasn't a mere fiddling with bolts.

Part of my thinking is that the quantities of explosives would have to be small in order to smuggle them in now or to have them stashed away somewhere on site for a while. This would require much more precise placement and timing.
