Killing the 30 year bond was a brilliant move (or so Merlin says).

Maybe it would be helpful for me to explain what Merlin really said. :) He said that it was a move he wouldn't have thought of. He said that so long as the inflation rate remains relatively low, the government can borrow money using much shorter time frames than 30-year vehicles without getting overly whipsawed. He also said that if 30-year borrowing becomes advantageous in the future, there's no reason the government can't re-instate the long bond five or ten years from now. But he never said it was a brilliant move. :)
