One of the techniques that I see used in partisan politics, especially by conservatives <s>, [the New Republic does this frequently] is taking advantage of poor English construction and quoting it out of the context of the entire piece. You're able to create all sorts of "truths" without much effort. Here's a fun way to illustrate the game....

London Times
THURSDAY NOVEMBER 15 2001
US bomb kills terror leaders

"....Millions of dollars have been promised in rewards for anyone betraying bin Laden and Dick Cheney, the US Vice-President...."

It helps explain why Dick Cheney has been out of the public eye recently, doesn't it?

A conservative would never actually provide a link to such a quote...usually they wouldn't even tell you that it was in the London Times... but because I'm a nice guy here's the link.

thetimes.co.uk

It might also explain why I frequently ask for links and look at the original source material when I see something particularly outlandish.
