I find it curious that you attach some sort of guilt from profiting from investing/trading endeavors.

I am not sure why. I have read many people on SI who express similar views. Cary S and I disagree on many things(he has me on ignore) but on this issue I believe we are of the same mind, or at least close to it.

I could never invest in a company like NKE, which exploits people in third world countries. I would not invest in medicine companies, simply because I believe they are deliberately keeping the pricing out of reach of many people, only to have them suffer and die as a result of protecting their margins. There may be exceptions to these but my criteria is stringent. Just as in products I consume I try to be aware of the characteristics of the products and the companies behind them, so too in investing do I only want to own those companies which I believe in.

I try to make my investing criterion similar to how I lead my life. Even if I can make a good deal of money on one of the companies off of my list, I refuse to do so.

Technology is the one area where i feel very comfortable. The employees are paid nicely, most companies are aware of the environment and take steps accordingly. And I believe in what they do; selling more to consumers at lower and lower prices. Additionally, companies like AMAT have done much for the community. On year they donated 2 million pounds of food to America's hungry; they were one of the first ones in to Taiwan after the major earthquake hit and wrote a check for $100,000 and did something similar with the WTC.

Regards,

Brian
