If the vertical stabilizer did, in fact, detach during their ascent, the pilots would have no chance of saving their aircraft.

The bolts which attached the stabilizer to the frame of the airplane remained intact according to preliminary reports so it would have to be either an underlying structural damage (i.e. material fatigue) or possibly an act of sabotage. Could wake turbulence from the preceding plane possibly generate enough force to shear off a vertical stabilizer, even if the underlying composite material of the aircraft may have been aging and fatigued?

We've all heard of resonance frequencies and have seen how winds blowing with the same frequency as bridges can cause their collapse. Do airplane bodies naturally have a resonance frequency and can wake turbulence mimic this effect?
