This year has taught me to replace harddisks periodically, even if they don't fail. IBM 60GXP is much better than 75GXP, but since most of my clients don't need exceptional performance on harddisks, I buy harddisks that have been on the market for some time and that my distributor tells me had a very low failure percentage. Right now, that is Seagate harddisks.

Most of the harddisks that have failed, have been in desktop computers in office environments. Since we don't use airconditions in most offices in Denmark, they can experience up to 30 degrees Celsius environmental temperature, and even more inside the chassis. I think this is a major reason for failures, and most of the harddisk failures happen during the summer.
