Customer interest for Itanium servers is "effectively zero," Joe Marengi, general manager of Dell Computer's enterprise business unit in North America, said in an interview Tuesday at the Comdex Fall 2001 trade show.

Doesn't surprise me. What does surprise me is that some people seemed to think that Itanium was actually selling. All I have ever seen evidence of is Intel giving away the processor in the hopes of seeding the market.

Makes a bit of a mockery of the technology award Itanium just got doesn't it?

The most stunning thing is that a Dell spokesman would come out and say that it is not selling. Where is the "special relationship"? Is this a sign of a falling out between Dell and Intel? Reality check - is it snowing in hell? This is more likely to be sabre rattling to get those 2 gig P4 channels lubricated again.

On the other hand, with Alpha out of the way the field is looking pretty clear for Sledge. What we need now is an early ship, with good take up by the other OEMs, so that there are none left for Dell. Dream on AMDroid :^)

Anyway, I am putting my money down. Just went short 20 Jan 30 INTC puts at 1.80.
