The Dem plan takes money from the people and gives it to the special interests.

The GOP (Senate) plan gives the money back to the people.

Elian Relatives' Lawyer Celebrates Mayoral Victory

Manny Diaz, an attorney for the U.S. relatives of young
Cuban escapee Elian Gonzalez, is celebrating his election
as mayor of Miami.

``We're at the dawn of a new era in Miami. Look around you,
over there, everywhere throughout this campaign, this is
what it was all about. One city, one future,'' Diaz told
supporters after his win Tuesday night, the Miami Herald
reported today.

He has his work cut out for him. Though he defeated former
mayor Maurice Ferre by 55 percent to 45 percent, 88 percent
of blacks and 68 percent of non-Hispanic whites voted
against Diaz.

``If you're not Cuban in Miami, you don't have a chance,''
fumed Ferre's campaign manager, Manny Alfonso.

Bad news for Florida guv wannabe Janet Reno: Rumors linking
Ferre to the former Clinton attorney general, who ordered
the armed abduction of Elian for shipment back to the
island prison of Fidel Castro, helped propel Diaz to
victory.

``Elian was very important,'' 71-year-old voter Berta
Garcia told the Herald. ``He [Diaz] did everything he could
for that boy. I didn't vote for Ferre because he said he
was going to support Janet Reno. He said later that he
didn't say it. But I heard it.''
