Since you're an afficionado of the philosophers, who was it that said (something to the effect) that democracy was it's own worst enemy ( meaning, I presume, that the freedoms democracy imparts imperils its survival).
I read that a few years ago and d*mned if I can ever track it down. I thought it was excellant.
