yes, retail sales very strong. quite a move in AMZN. sorry i sold my LOW, might just have to buy it back higher if it doesn't co-operate.
check out YHOO - potentially very significant news on their deal with SBC. YHOO looks to become the front page for DSL and regular internet service for SBC clients, and get piece of the monthly subscription. beginning of long process of YHOO securing monthly revenue. SBC recently bot Prodigy, or what was left of it, so we now have SBC+YHOO+Prodigy: interactive.wsj.com
the moves in YHOO and AMZN almost makes this "investor" start to believe in the internet again. larry

Strong retail sales? At what gross margin I wonder? LOW didn't run too many abnormal sales. And LE didn't that I can find in the catalog. But MIKE, ANF, and GPS stores looked like they had everything on a clearance sale. These type mall stores can spike sales in the blink of an eye, but often the margins are terrible.

On the flip positive side, such sales do wonders for clearing inventory and the carrying costs of it. And most importantly allows "fresh" merchandise to be brought in. If lucky the store buyer brings in the hot color or style item. If unlucky, the whole markdown of new stale inventory starts again.

And then of course you get the hardheaded store manager that thinks it best to hide the unsold winter coats, for example, in storage until next year. Clogging up inventory. I think I'm having a bad Belk flashback now.........
