Joe, the Presario 8000Z is significantly above the $1000 price niceguy set. Even stripped you cannot get it much below $1300. The retail price tag is usually around 1500-1700 dollars (chech e.g. walmart.com).

Note that Compaq does not offer any Athlon configuration with WinXP-Pro option. Same 8000 series with the P4 allows either version of WinXP.

Micron offers all choices including Win2000

Jozef:

Thanks...For some reason Athlon XP's, which were advertized by MDG.ca in Toronto a couple of weeks ago, are no linger available.

I am about to buy myself an early Christmas present, thanks to Jozef. Compaq 8000, Model 1700XP, CDRW, 40G HD, upgraded mouse, no speakers and no monitor. $824, which includes a $50 promotional discount and free shipping. I'm glad I waited.

OT, I just upgraded my PDA to a Sony Clie, and it's awesome. $169 anywhere.

Best,

Dave
