Hong Kong stocks up by midday on strong U.S. October sales

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Hong Kong's benchmark share index ended the Thursday morning session above 11,000 for the first time since early September after strong U.S. retail sales encouraged investors to pick up stocks.

Exporters Li & Fung and Johnson Electric were among the index's leading gainers on a surprising seven percent surge in U.S. retail sales in October, indicating that Hong Kong's second biggest export market may be in better shape than previously thought.
