Texas drilling permits decline in September

The Texas Railroad Commission issued 713 original drilling permits in
September 2001 compared to 1,147 in September 2000. However,
total drilling permits for 2001 year to date is 9,897, up from 8,861
recorded during the same period in 2000. The September total
included 522 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 27 to re-enter
existing well bores and 164 for recompletions. Permits issued in
September included 172 oil, 230 gas, 298 oil and gas, eight injection
and five other permits.

The Texas Railroad Commission reported that during August 2001,
total oil production was 30,703,213 barrels, a decrease from
32,882,041 barrels reported during August 2000. During the month oil
and gas wells produced 452,453,915 Mcf of gas, down from the
488,853,556 Mcf produced in August 200
