So much for Lieberman - he endorsed the leader and Bush endorsed the runner-up.

Bush carried the day, despite the Lieberman crony outspending the winner by almost 3-1:

...Dermer capped off his runoff campaign by receiving a last-minute endorsement from Gov. Jeb Bush on Monday -- a significant big-name boost Dermer did not hesitate to trumpet on Spanish-language radio. Bush called Dermer on Tuesday night to congratulate him.

Although the race was nonpartisan, the governor's endorsement influenced at least one Miami Beach voter.

``I heard about that in the news,'' said Tony Cacho, 32, a Republican resident of mid-Beach. ``Bush is what sealed the deal for me.''

Bloom also pulled in significant heavyweight endorsements in the campaign's waning hours: Florida Democratic Sens. Bob Graham and Bill Nelson and Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., recorded phone messages for her.

Although the Beach is heavily Democratic, with about 45 percent of the registered voters, Bloom's strong party ties failed to help her Tuesday....
