I've heard those stories as well. My wife's great-uncle had a live-in who was cashing checks of his at the local bank. Her story was that he was telling her to write the checks herself and go ahead and cash 'em.

In that case the story was suspect. But nobody prosecutes these people so it happens. In my mother-in-law's case.....where a lot of jewelry was taken....by the time the jewels were missed the nurse had moved to Britain. Speedy, she was, this was within a few days of the funeral.
