wbmw, No high level competitor can allow themselves to be blindsided if AMD came out with a exceptionally good part. Just think of the lawsuits and what that would cost them, you can be sure they watch the entire field with care. That includes Via and Transmeta as well. You think Intel does not check out AMD parts?
It was a brilliant move by AMD to circulate first step Athlons to those they felt would 'leak' the parts to Intel, NDA notwithstanding, and yet allow those they felt were worth to see the later stepping, out of that came 20% share and raging at Intel.
