I plan to do a second listen. << you are totally ignoring the big picture. >> LOL! I'm a little picture guy this week. << Sprint in short was confirming that they believe that the TDMA/GSM/GPRS/EDGE guys won't be able to compete with similar services. >> ... and the analysts, I'm sure ate that right up. Heck, you loaded the boat, right. As for whether the EDGE guy can compete (in that short window when thet are GPRS and Sprint is 1xRTT) we shall see. At this stage of the transition to wireless data, that is hardly a given. Content (and marketing, and cost) will be key. So will features of devices, and I do think that PCS & Verizon will have an edge here in the Americas in that regard. << 1X with 144 will test the data demand market, 307 was always to follow as confirmed by Sprint. >> Right. 307 was always to follow. 614 to follow that, say the roadmaps. << Qualcomm is shipping the 5100 and 5500 with 307 ahead of networks being ready for 307 >> Right. Let me tell you however, that Qualcomm's press releases on the MSM5100 did not leave that impression with most people that read them. Shipping ahead of networks being ready was a slight omission wouldn't you say? << The upgrade from to 307 is minor, I will follow up with details. >> All detail would be most appreciated. << This strategy is different from the GSM crowd which is fully aware they are way behind and launch "networks???" without working handsets. >> Lets not get too carried away with misinformation and misinformation here. <g> VoiceStream officially just launched nationwide after their earlier stealth launch. What subscriber equipment that they offer isn't working? << 307 and DO has been tested and is waiting for network deployment. >> What is network deployment waiting on? << Never did I say 307 was fully commercialized.>> Right. and neither is DO. It will go through essentially the same process that 1xRTT went through in Korea from last October through January (testing, debugging, tuning optimizing), and that will take place again in Korea no doubt. Certain elements of Rev A may already be incorporated in 1 or more of the Korean Nets, but I'm guessing on a test switch. Rev A has some pretty comprehensive improvements over Phase 0, but although Rev A is finally just about ready for publication at least as of a few weeks ago it was still awaiting resolution of the synch channel issue. Once the standard is published full commercialization will commence. That takes some time, and some patience. Qualcomm's chips might be ready on the infra side, but I guarantee the infra providers are not ready to supply. << What would have the carriers do, launch 307 and say the new 153 handsets are second best, >> MSM5105 handsets are 2nd best to MSM5100 based handsets for any number of reasons that do not have to do with peak data rates on the downlink. I'm assuming that by the time Valente does the nationwide launch that. << Sounds like Sprint plans on 1 year after the 1X 153 is fully deployed >> That’s what Oliver said, and he pretty much explained why. Nice thing about PCS is that marketing, while involved, isn't calling the shots, on when things deploy. Oliver is. Do you expect Verizon to implement Rev A enhancements any quicker than PCS? I don't. << If anyone ever pumped Q's technology it was Valente on that call >> he is an excellent and credible spokesman for cdma and cdma2000. As far as WCDMA, the faster it is deployed the better. Agreed. << It appears that the download speeds in Japan are a lot faster than 64, but I am still waiting for average speeds to be released as the network gets loaded. >> They are, and so am I. I think that meaningful data will be quite a bit out however. - Eric -
