I've heard nothing on the subject of security clearances for airline workers. While not a factor in 911, I think background checks are in order for aviation employees. * * *

"Technology based screening with automated auto detection, (image processing auto analysis) augmented fallible whatever humans is the solution" I agree that Fed workers don't gaurentee accuracy and also I agree with your point above. In addition I would say that more careful screening of the baggage handlers would be prudent whether Federal or private. If there is any positive to the Federal workers it is that they will be screened pretty thoroughly.
