I don't know when people started to get uptight about illegal immigration, but it was no big deal for most of our history. Nobody really cared who was here. People came and went without government keeping track of them.

I don't feel threatened by California gardeners from Mexico, either, but I think that national security requires that we at least know who is here. That includes both gardeners and Al Qaida cell members. If the gardeners can get in and function, so can the cells

like maybe if my gardener speaks Urdu instead of Spanish....I may wanna check em out?
