I assume you're unaware that Venezuela holds the current leadership position for OPEC, right?

Chavez has not been particularly "friendly" to US interests and has seemingly taken great joy in being a player on the middle eastern scene, even paying Saddam a visit just to tweak the nose of the United States.

But of course, we're not exactly too friendly to his goal of being the next Simon Bolivar, or his subverting the governments of S. American governments for the purpose of uniting that southern continent under his thumb.

So yeah.. we buy oil from Venezuela, but I don't believe we'd have any heartburn in making Chavez feel a little humility and moderation with regard to his anti-US sentiments.
