Peter - I think that story is bogus.

Below is an article from the NOT-ALWAYS-RELIABLE Inquirer about that issue:

INQUIRER threatened.... ooerr...

By Mike Magee, 24/10/2001 11:05:56 BST

MAYBE THERE'S A MOOD OF LITIGATION sweeping through Jerry Sanders' !!!+ company Advanced Micro Devices.

Last week we published a story headed AMD, Via and Intel win big Chinese deal, and this morning we got a stiff note from Perry Chan, something exactly along the following lines.

"I am the country Manager of AMD. After I read your message, the followings are the questions for you:

"1. We have never appointed/signed agreement with the company called "G-Choice" to sell our AMD CPU product in China, they are not our official distributor nor dealer in China. Where you got this information??

" You are mis-leading the viewer, specially in China, for a new AMD distributor/dealer in China. We have reveived a lot call for this issue, we need to hear from you or the sourse you got this information. We are considering a further action for this information to you.

"Please let me have your prompt reply in this issue.

Rgds,
Perry Chan"

Ooerrr....

Here's the section of the press release we based the original story on:

New York, New York, Oct 22, 2001 (Market News Publishing) -- Genesis Technology Group, Inc. announced that its subsidiary Shanghai G-Choice Science and Technology Company, Limited has entered into a distribution agreement with Intel Corporation, Cyrix and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD). Under the terms of the agreement, Shanghai G-Choice has exclusive distribution rights for Intel CPU and AMD CPUs in the eastern part of China. Shanghai G-Choice has also been awarded the exclusive distribution rights for Cyrix's CPU in Shanghai. The Eastern part of China is believed to have the most dynamic economy in the greater China marketplace. The area covers six provinces: Jianshu, Fujian, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, and Shangdong and the city of Shanghai. These areas have a combined population of over 300 million." µ
