Sony to assemble and sell Vaio PCs in China

sg.news.yahoo.com

TOKYO/BEIJING (Reuters) - Sony Corp said on Friday it would assemble and sell its Vaio brand notebook personal computers in China, with a sales debut planned for December 1 as it takes aim at the world's fourth-largest PC market.

Initial production volume will be modest, a Sony spokeswoman in Tokyo said, declining to give any specifics beyond saying it would be less than the 200,000 units per year reported by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun business daily.

"But this will gradually be increased," she said.

The Vaios will be assembled at an existing Sony facility in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province.
