Beamer - Re: "But instead of taking the AMDroid way out and taking up arms against Dell for being an Intel-only supplier, maybe you should call that software company whose applications run your business, and tell them it's time to upgrade."

A SUPERB suggestion !

Paul

wbmw, Our software is coded on house. The problem is that it's a mix of many 3rd party libraries and a lot of home grown code. These libraries are written in high level languages like C++ and Delphi. They really can't make any use of Netburst or anything like that. They seem to like the multiple pipelines that the Athlon provides and they seem to choke on the Netburst limitations. It would be an extremely expensive undertaking to revamp all those apps.
I don't think we are alone. Every company in the US has custom applications that runs their business and they are used to a level of performance. When they are forced to buy a P4 and their apps slow down by 50% they will complain. Can/Will they do anything about it? probably not for reasons that all of you Intel folks have been telling us Amd folk for a long time. Intel Brand/Marketing/image whatever you want to call it goes a long way. As long as tier 1 oems don't offer AMD machines, Fortune 500 companies will not buy any AMD machines. Sad and frustrating.
