Yousf, Is it a temporising move since UMC will be ready faster? If so then AMD will gain production as well es experience and will be able to leapfrog their Dresden site to the next stage, since they do have a load of extra space there?

Yousef: If AMD gets out of the process development "thingy", they will never be able to re-start that effort.

AMD definitely needs to keep the process development momentum going, but I do think that partnering with the Taiwanese would be a better idea than Motorola.

Then even with all the "achitecture thingy" experts in the world, AMD will fall even further behind than they currently are in processor performance.

Of course, they are not actually behind in "processor performance"&#133 (but almost certainly will be in Q1 when Northwood debuts)
