KT -

Yes, but I want to know in advance. From the initial announcement -

biz.yahoo.com

"...On November 15, 2001, Thermo Electron will distribute all of its shares of Viasys Healthcare to Thermo Electron shareholders of record on November 7, 2001. Immediately after the planned distribution, Thermo Electron will no longer own shares of Viasys Healthcare. ..."

If you saw this, would you know that November 15/16 would be the ex-dividend boundary?

In the case of a cash dividend -

biz.yahoo.com

"...is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors, on October 11, 2001, declared a $.07 cash dividend for its fourth quarter ended July 31, 2001.

This cash dividend of $ .07 per common share, for the fourth quarter ended July 31, 2001, will be payable on November 8, 2001, to shareholders of record on October 25, 2001. ..."

In this case, is October 26 the ex-dividend date?

If my assumptions are correct, then the record date means different things in different cases. True?

Thanks, Don
