You are mistaken. You can't survive in a capitalist system ONLY thinking about what's best for you. You survive by constantly keeping other human beings ( i.e. customers ) happy.

Capital by definition acts in its own self interest.

Absolutely classic case. The more the owners pay the players, the crappier they treat their customers. Now they've priced themselves out of at least two markets. Baseball players are content to let their job market contract significantly rather than offer wage concessions.
