Pakistan seems too busy on the eastern border to be guarding their western boarder properly to keep Taliban and bin Laden from coming in.

India responds to Pak troop movements

Dismissing Pakistan's contention that its troop movement close to border was part of exercises, Defence Minister George Fernandes said India has relocated its forces in certain areas as a "precautionary measure" and troops had been asked to be on alert.

"Pakistan has moved its armoured force from strike corps and this cannot be related to any kind of exercises. It cannot be termed as routine," Fernandes told journalists who accompanied him to a visit to some forward areas.

Stating that the objective of the movement of troops by Pakistan was not clear, he said India had also moved its "forces closer to border in areas where we thought necessary."

He said the troops along the border had been asked to be on alert to thwart any possible evil designs of the neighbour.

"The situation is such that one cannot but be alert round the clock," the defence minister said, adding the guard cannot be lowered considering the experience of Kargil in 1999.

Fernandes, who visited several forward locations along the border in Punjab and Rajasthan sectors, however, said there was no tension so far on the border.

Fernandes warned Pakistan against attempting to violate the international border. "If Pakistan makes any kind of move to violate India's territorial boundaries, our forces are well poised to defeat it," he asserted.

Gee what's wrong with this picture? Pakistan puts 1,000 troops to defend their border with Afghanistan but 60,000 troops on the border with India where nothing is supposed to be happening.

Pakistan sends 1,000 troops to border area: QUETTA, Nov 16: Pakistan began to deploy 1,000 extra troops today along a sensitive stretch of its border with Afghanistan, amid fears Taliban fighters might try to sneak into the country. The reinforcements will be backed by six tanks sent Thursday to the area around Chaman -- the main border crossing close to the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta. Military officials here said 150 troops were immediately posted along the border and the rest would be progressively deployed today. "If Kandahar falls there is a real concern that armed Taliban may try to cross the border," one official said. The key southern Afghan city of Kandahar, just 120 kilometres (74 miles) from Chaman and the last great prize in the war against the Taliban, is surrounded by a loose coalition of Northern Alliance troops and local tribal leaders pushing for a negotiated surrender of the city.
