<< because you have an errant view (probably pushed on you by doctors and the media) that we need to favor monounsaturated over saturated fat. hogwash. >> the bottom line is simple. eating 6 ounces of monounsaturated fats in the form of peanuts, guacamole, almonds, macadamia nuts or olive oil is much healthier than eating 6 ozs of animal fat and eating it with a knife and fork. << wrong. you've been brainwashed into believing that saturated fat (i.e. animal fats) are unhealthy. >> also, your argument that you don't need carbos so you should avoid them also applies to saturated fat as long as you take B12. the reason you don't reach the same conclusion for each is b/c the logic doesn't exist. << i hate to break it to you skeeter, but whether you take in saturated or unsaturated fat, your body converts it into saturated fat for storage on your body. there are many benefits to eating meat and animal proteins so it's actually desirable to eat it, not detrimental. >> your brain runs on glucose << not exclusively, so what? >> carbos are broken apart during digestion creating glucose to feed your brain << carbos can be broken down to feed energy to all sorts of organs. so what? that doesn't mean it's the preferred source of fuel. >> yes, your body can work on proteins (even muscle!) to create the REQUIRED glucose << ok >> however, doing so is much more stressfull on the body << here's where you're wrong. >> carbos aren't bad << not in moderation. >> excessive amounts over and beyond body requirements are bad << take a look at our adult population and then pay attention to what's being pushed on us on the grocery shelves, and pushed on us by the government, and then take a look what ends up in people's shopping cart. then go look up the government statistics which show that fat and protein intakes are relatively flat over the past 30 years, while carbohydrate intake is up approx 30%. then walk down a busy street (if you're too lazy to look up more govt statistics) and see how many obese people are walking around. then do some research on how many people are contracting cardiovascular related diseases and diabetes. then get back to me and we can discuss a proper nutritional diet that will satiate your appetite, and stop your craving for carbs. once you agree with me that consuming excess carbs is deleterious to your health, then we can discuss strategies for reducing your carbohydrate consumption. one of the best ways to do that is to increase your intake of animal based protein sources such as MEAT. >> wow! that's why fruits and vegetables arn't bad for you unless eaten in excessive amounts! they play a real role in health. << who said fruits and veggies are bad for your health? furthermore, i notice like everyone else you don't differentiate which fruits and veggies to eat. you lump them all together as if they are all healthy. i suppose a head of broccoli is the same as a glass of fruit juice is the same as a frozen tater tot, and i guess if we drink ketchup all day we are getting our fruits and veggies in! >> i consider the cost of reasonable saturated fat intake to be more than offset by the convenience and satisfaction gathered from eating meat << once again you have been brainwashed. you consider eating meat a "cost", a "convenience", and "satisfaction". you can't just bring yourself to accept that their are benefits to human health from eating meat and other animal sources. >> the key is that a reasonable person will not suck down lard as though they are macadamia nuts, almonds or peanuts - something your philosophy would support. << first of all i don't suck down lard. where have i said that? second of all, it's nearly impossible to suck down "lard as though they are macadamia nuts", because fat has the quality of satiating your appetite and making you feel full. if you ate a steady stream of lard you would lose your appetite very quickly and you would naturally stop eating it. >> btw, perhaps breast feeding s/b rescinded as unhealthful b/c of all the carbos it contains... << golly, breast milk is around 50% fat, and a lot of that is saturated fat! >> of course, you know better than the designer of breast milk! ho ho ho ho! << uh huh. and i suppose you know better than the "designer" of eggs when you are hoodwinked into believing that we should separate and eat less yolks and more egg whites. i suppose the "designer" of eggs didn't make them properly. i suppose we are smarter than the "designer" of meat in animals when we raise them leaner so they will have less fat. i suppose we are smarter than the "designer" of milk when we take the fat out of it. same for most other dairy products. i suppose we are smarter than the "designer" when we eat man-made margarine to avoid saturated fat that is naturally found in butter. yeah, uh huh.
