Constantine, nothing is "easy" for Intel. Remaining on top is a constant competitive battle. If it isn't AMD, it's someone else. Intel's biggest problem with Pentium 4 was not preparing the software market ahead of time, like they did for the P5 and P6. Like you said, it will probably take a few years for corporations to catch up, but it might be a good idea for them to start sooner rather than later. Micro-architectural enhancements happen once every year or so, so updating software may become the easiest way in the future to get the most out of the performance of these new cores.
