Interesting round- up. The funny thing is that the Northeast route is perhaps the only Amtrak route that can pay for itself, mainly between Washington and New York. Passenger train service is unlikely to pay for itself, which makes privatization dubious, except for select routes. (Freight trains are self- sustaining). I am not sure why Congress is so attached to Amtrak. Maybe, in the wake of air disaster, trains will pick up customers.......
