RS, your explanations make sense. Still, a halving of MOU revenues, even though MOU increased, was pretty shocking. I think G* desperately needs a large scale sale of super cheap minutes, like Iridium's sale to the defense department, to secure its future. The current trends show it's not a viable business, even without the debt.

Globalstar Extends Price Reductions to Canada; Extremely Low-cost Satellite Phone Service Now Available From the Caribbean to the Arctic

stockhouse.com

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug 26, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Globalstar, the world's leading handheld satellite phone provider, today followed up last week's dramatic U.S. and Caribbean price reductions with similar price reductions of up to 75% for registered users in Canada, making truly low-cost satellite telephony available in one of the company's fastest growing markets.

Under the new pricing plans announced today by Globalstar Canada, calls can be made from virtually any place in Canada for as low as 32 Canadian cents per minute (approx. 21 U.S. cents), with no long distance charges for calls to anywhere in Canada, the continental U.S., Alaska, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, along with their respective maritime regions. Handset prices have also been reduced to a recommended list price of C$995 (US$638)

"Canada is an ideal market for Globalstar," said Tony Navarra, president of Globalstar LP. "With countless businesses and government services operating in remote areas, Canadians have been turning more and more to Globalstar for essential communications. Globalstar Canada already counts among its customers many federal government agencies and virtually every provincial government, as well as thousands of businesses and individuals involved in forestry, mining, maritime and other key industries. And today's price action will make our service economically practical to an enormously larger potential market."
