Note that the mainboards based on this chipset are announced not only by the well-known server specialists, such as TYAN, but also by the companies, which have never paid too much attention to server market. For example, at COMDEX show in Las-Vegas you can now see the following mainboards on AMD-760MPX chipset (AMD-762 + AMD-768): ABIT WA-2A (photo watch.impress.co.jp ); Gigabyte GA-7PXDW (photo watch.impress.co.jp ); MSI MS-6501 (photo watch.impress.co.jp ); TYAN Thunder K7X (announced yesterday xbitlabs.com ); TYAN Tiger MPX (a modification of Thunder K7X with the commonly located DIMM slots, photo watch.impress.co.jp ). All the mainboards feature similar specifications, so we don’t think there is any need in listing them anew. The only differences between the boards make various integrated controllers, such as: IDE RAID, Ultra160 SCSI and 10/100 Ethernet LAN. Only TYAN Thunder K7X stands out a bit, because it is targeted for use in rack mount servers and boasts the richest features set. The mainboards from ABIT, MSI and Gigabyte look much simpler: they have an IDE RAID controller instead of the more expensive SCSI one, don’t have any integrated graphics and can’t boast very powerful network solutions. All in all, we will very soon see a great number of Dual-Socket A mainboards in the market, which will most probably oust Dual-Pentium III-S (Tualatin/512) from the Low-End server sector. The matter is that the systems built on AMD-760MPX will cost much less money than those built on Pentium III and ServerWorks chipset. xbitlabs.com :o) Milo
