I completely disagree with you, but it's unlikely we will find much common ground here.

Not with the way AMD likes to run their business. I'm going to categorize this under "AMDroid Fantasy". Remember, this is more than 50% better than they did last year, and that was with Intel faltering, with the biggest product advantage in their history, and with the largest technology sector boom this country is likely to have this decade. I think AMD would be lucky to have a sustained EPS of $1.00 per year in three years (assuming a rather generous economic recovery).

I just read Dr.Dobbs. They had an article on optimizing code for IA-64. Poor slobs they expect people to drop down into assembler to improve its performance. They did mention that compiler improvements can only go so far.
