Nothing, it's just a sign of confusion. Median is the value which is greater than half of the samples and which is also less than the other half. A middle value, in other words. Since you find the median by alternately discarding the lowest and highest samples one at a time until you're left with a single value, the resulting median is not affected by a high half value sample being extremely high or a low half value being extremely low.
