Well, that does explain Intel ASPs falling, but it doesn't explain AMD ASPs rising so dramatically. Maybe it's just a capacity issue. AMD is now competing in a market about twice the size of the one it had last year. It's still in the retail desktop market (mostly through whitebox makers) and now is a strong player in the mobile market and is entering the SMP workstation/server market. AMD seems to be making some progress into the corporate market, as well (entirely through whitebox makers). AMD could have expected demand for desktop Athlons to fall off during the big P4 push, and demand "failed to fall."
