Slider, maybe you can excuse me if I thought you meant you shorted the broad market when you said you were "25% short the broad market." Of course, the broad market had dropped that AM when you posted, and who would have known that it would jump up so hard and fast that day just after you posted. If you meant that you were "short subprime financials & credit card lenders" as you have claimed, AFTER THE FACT, why did you claim to be short the broad market? These are questions that puzzle me.

The fact is that you're a smart guy, although it's hard to see that sometimes. It's also true that you have very little credibility among posters who have a lot of respect on these boards. You lost that credibility by making a contest out of "wins and losses" and then by distorting your wins and others losses. The truth is that only juvenile thinking justifies such a "contest" on these boards and that those we seek to impress could generally care less about people they will never meet. They are more interested in whether these posts help them make their investment decisions or get them through the day with some humor or insight.

Step back and take a look at the big picture. Here are some things you might see:

*You don't get bigger when you make others look smaller.
*No good thinker really cares whether you were right or wrong in a prediction, they are more interested in whether you had anything to add to the mix of ideas that addressed the analysis of the issue.
*Just because you have no middle ground on a postion doesn't mean you are right. History is full of those who were sure they were right only to find that the truth lay somewhere in the middle.
*Posters appreciate stock suggestions that give them more to consider in terms of choices, especially when they are given with the benefit of substantial analysis and homework. (JimP is a great example and you do well here also)
*Posts that are funny or uplifting are great, especially during those times that could use a little lift, posts that crow over the misfortune of others are welcomed only in retaliation for past abuses.
*If you fool people into believing you are something you are not, how valuable are the "foolish" you have gathered around you?

If there are two sides to the old SISD battle and if you and Isopatch and Roebear were on one side and the HDP and Boom Boom room posters were on the other, we lost little with the loss of Roebear, gained a lot with the loss of Isopatch and lost when we lost you. Similarly, you lost when you lost us. The give and take that we had was good for all of us but when it got to the point of purely ego battles that got vicious, and when good posters didn't want to get hammered for voicing a different view and stopped posting, the parting was justified. I can't speak for others, but I miss your analysis, miss your humor and miss the catalyst you are for discussion.

I don't miss the bullying, mean and distorting side of you. It's too bad that you couldn't modify your proclivity for nastiness enough on at least one board to post in a civil manner and thus find a meeting ground that allows discourse with others. You could be as petty and heavy handed as you wanted somewhere else. I think that if you read the posts here carefully you will see that the olive branch has been offered and I think it's fairly apparent that you would welcome and enjoy the opportunity to exchange views and insights with posters who were once your fellow posters. You might even find that you enjoy a kinder, gentler style that doesn't cause discomfort in a great many posters who are not as inclined to participate in battles as some of us are. Ed
