Code of Silence

The Bridge Original Release: 1986

Everybody's got a million questions
Everybody wants to know the score
What you went through
It's something you
Should be over now

Everybody wants to hear the secrets
That you never told a soul before
And it's not that strange
Because it wouldn't change
What happened anyhow

But you swore to yourself a long time ago
There were some things that people never needed to know
This is one that you keep
That you bury so deep
No one can tear it out

And you can't talk about it
Because you're following a code of silence
You're never gonna lose the anger
You just deal with it a different way
And you can't talk about it
And isn't that a kind of madness
To be living by a code of silence
When you've really got a lot to say

You don't want to lose a friendship
There' s nothing that you have to hide
And a little dirt couldn't hurt no one anyway
And you still have a rage inside you
That you carry with certain pride
In the only part of a broken heart
That you could never save

But you've been through it once, yo know how it ends
You don't see the point of going through it again,
And this ain't the place, and this ain't the time,
And neither's any other day
So you can't talk about it
Because your following a code of silence
You're never gonna lose the anger
You just deal within it a different way
So you can't talk about it
And isn't that a kind of madness
To be living by a code of silence
When you've really got a lot to say

I know you well enough to tell you've got your reasons
That's not the kind of code you're inclined to break
Some things unknown are best left alone forever
And if a vow is what it takes
Haven't you paid for your mistakes

After the moment passes
And the impulse disappears
You can still hold back
Because you don't crack very easily

It's a time honored resolution
Because the danger is always near
It's with you now
But that ain't how it was supposed to be

And it's hard to believe after all these years
That it still gives you pain and it still brings tears
And you feel like a fool, because in spite of your rules
You've got a memory

But you can't talk about it
Because you're following a code of silence
You're never gonna lose the anger
You just deal with it a different way
But you can't talk about it
And isn't that a kind of madness
To be living by a code of silence
When you've really got a lot to say

The River Of Dreams

River Of Dreams Released: 1993

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
From the mountains of faith
To a river so deep
I must be looking for something
Something sacred I lost
But the river is wide
And it's too hard to cross

And even though I know the river is wide
I walk down every evening and I stand on the shore
And try to cross to the opposite side
So I can finally find out what I've been looking for

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the valley of fear
To a river so deep
And I've been searching for something
Taken out of my soul
Something I would never lose
Something somebody stole

I don't know why I go walking at night
But now I'm tired and I don't want to walk anymore
I hope it doesn't take the rest of my life
Until I find what it is that I've been looking for

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the jungle of doubt
To a river so deep
I know I'm searching for something
Something so undefined
That it can only be seen
By the eyes of the blind
In the middle of the night

I'm not sure about a life after this
God knows I've never been a spiritual man
Baptized by the fire, I wade into the river
That runs to the promised land
In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

the talk of OZZY being a devil dude is nonsense. This tune spoke to me when I was a kid and kept me from ever traveling down that road..many of my friends weren't as lucky....I'll always owe Ozzy

"Hand Of Doom"

What you you gonna do,
Time's caught up with you
Now you wait your turn,
You know there's no return
Take your written rules,
You join the other fools
Turn to something new,
Now it's killing you

First it was the bomb,
Vietnam napalm,
Disillusioning,
You push the needle in
From life you escape,
Reality(')s that (way/fade)
Colors in your mind satisfy in time

Oh you you know you must be blind,
To do such things like this,
To take the sleep that you don't know
You're giving Death a kiss
Poor little fool now

Your mind is full of pleasure,
Your BODY's looking ill
To you it's shallow leisure,
So drop the acid pill
Don't stop to think now

You're having a good time baby,
But that won't last,
Your mind's all full of things,
You're living too fast,
Go out enjoy yourself,
Don't bar it in
You need someone to help you
stick the needle in, yeah

Now you know the scene,
Your skin starts turnin' green
Your eyes no longer see life's reality
Push the needle in,
Face Death's sickly grin
Holes are in your skin,
Caused by deadly pin

Head starts spinning 'round,
You fall down to the ground
Feel your body heave,
Death's hand starts to weave
It's too late to turn,
You Don't want to learn
Price of life you hide,
Now You're gonna die
