Rumor has it that the late Jewish/Lebanese/Brazilian banker Edmond Safra was deeply involved in money laundering (on behalf of Russian interests).... His banks were Safra Bank and Republic Bank of NY. I've read two books written by Jean Ziegler, a Swiss deputy and professor of sociology: La Suisse lave plus blanc and Le bonheur d'etre suisse (Ziegler's autobiography). In his autobiography, Ziegler narrates his lawsuit with Edmond Safra (whose French lawyers were Messrs. Kiejman and Jacques Verges)...

Anyway, as I said, money laundering is a worldwide fact of life --from Japan to Macao to Dubai to New York...

Police go in at Barclays France

THE managing director of Barclays France has been arrested and placed under formal investigation for alleged money laundering, it was confirmed yesterday.

Henri-Paul Pellegrino, who was released from custody yesterday, was questioned about an alleged money-laundering network between France and Israel.
