I'm thinking Naz 5500 by Dec... that will probably scare the shorts and some of the piggies may finally take some profits.

All should be ready for the Dow to blow off above 10000 soon. That would elicit a new wave of capitulation by bears, gain lots more converts to the bullish camp, and trigger a multiplicity of bullish articles in the press.
In other words perhaps the final ingrediant necessary for a significant top

Good points.

Are you suggesting that the bets by the bears are already in place to a large extent. The rallies of the past couple of weeks were probably a great time (from the bearish viewpoint) to put out shorts. The frusteration must be building right about now and the fear of the market going higher developing.

My point being that this patterns is supposed to be what we have seen for 18 months; many will want to only abandon it once it fails convincingly.

Dow 10k will generate incredible headlines and it will be contageous..the Nasdaq would probably then go over 2000 as well...and then we get the capitulation by the shorts..and as you say, make possibly make a meaningful top.
