Paul, from that Hardware Central article, the phenomenon described in the sentence below is really a timeless one in the history of AMD based PCs.

This, too, is a big topic in online discussions, as numerous shoppers wooed by the speed and economy of the Athlon XP are hastily returning their KT266A systems due to stability or compatibility problems.
