SB,

<< Vigilance is the price of freedom. >>

I think that attitude makes perfect sense. Right now.

It also made perfect sense at one time with regard to the former Soviet empire, and also with regard to China. It makes far less sense now.

So, I am hopeful that a fundamental change similar to what occurred in these political arenas can be similarly effected to occur in response to terrorism. Any long-term solution to terrorism must encompass a concerted effort to disarm the motivation of those involved. If they no longer see us as the enemy, they will not be inclined to commit acts of violence. Otherwise, we will be in a prolonged, protracted war against terrorism with the certainty that many Americans will be victims of terrorist violence, no matter how vigilant we are. Just ask the Israelis. Though in the short term, we can learn much from the way the Israelis have dealt with terrorism, there is no long-term solution at all there, and I am hopeful we won't follow in their footsteps.

JMVHO......
