I've noticed that the media tends to hype these events (comets, meteor showers, etc), so I tend to take the advertised coming celestial spectacles with a grain of salt.

I got up about 2:15 am PST and watched for ½ an hour (SW corner of Canada). The sliver of a moon had set, the sky was clear, no city lights here. Saw maybe 5 per minute, often in bursts of 2 or 3. Most coming from the south or east. Spooked a deer in the yard, er, well, she spooked me first. <g>
